Youth Bicycle Helmets Recalled Over Head Injury Risk

Triple Eight Distribution recalled approximately 30,000 child's bicycle helmets because of safety concerns.
Triple Eight Distribution has issued a recall of approximately 30,000 of its child and youth bicycle helmets after it was discovered that the products were not in compliance with federal safety standards.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ordered the recall after it was determined that the helmets do not meet federal impact resistance standards. The recall involves the Little Tricky line of multi-purpose helmets that were sold from August 2006 through November 2011. The one-size-fits-all helmets were sold at sporting goods stores and other retail locations nationwide as well as through online vendors.
The recall was ordered after concerns were raised that a fall while wearing one of the helmets could potentially result in a serious head injury. While no injuries have yet been reported, the CPSC is urging consumers to discontinue using the helmets. Anyone who has experienced a problem after using one of the Little Tricky helmets is also encouraged to contact the CSPC website at www.saferproducts.gov.
Triple Eight is offering full refunds for the recalled helmets. Consumers may visit the company's website or call 888-548-8518 for more information.
Having a well-constructed, safety compliant bicycle helmet can help prevent serious or even fatal injuries in the event of an accident. In the state of California, anyone under the age of 18 is required to wearing a helmet meeting federal safety standards while operating a bicycle or scooter.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, wearing a helmet is the single most effective way to prevent a head injury or traumatic brain injury if you're involved in a bicycle accident. In 2009, there were 630 fatal bicycle accidents nationwide with 99 of those deaths occurring in California. Sixty-four children aged 15 or under were killed in bicycle accidents nationwide and another 8,000 were injured.
A bicycle accident can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the victim and their family so it's important to always use caution when traveling the roadways. Wearing a proper bicycle helmet can offer an increased degree of protection. It cannot, however, prevent an accident caused by an unsafe or negligent driver.
If you or a loved one was hurt in a bicycle accident caused by a drunk, distracted or otherwise careless driver, they may be held financially liable for your injuries. A reckless driver may be required to compensate you for your medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering if their reckless actions result in an accident. Contacting an experienced personal injury lawyer as quickly as possible following a bicycle accident is key to protecting your legal rights.
