Elderly Man Killed in Chula Vista Bicycle Accident
An unidentified Chula Vista man was killed in a bicycle accident as he was riding in front of a South Bay primary school last week.
According to 760KFMB Radio, the 77-year-old victim was riding his bicycle near Rice Elementary School on Fourth Avenue on January 19th when he was struck by a female motorist shortly after 8:30 a.m. The woman was apparently leaving the school when the accident occurred.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead approximately one hour later. The driver, who was reportedly an employee at the school, has not yet been charged in connection with the incident. Police did say the bicyclist had the right of way when the accident occurred and that it did not appear the female driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Should police determine that the driver was at fault in causing the bicyclist's death, she may potentially face criminal charges for her role in the accident. The victim's family may also choose to file a lawsuit to seek monetary damages for the death of their loved one. While no amount of money can compensate for their loss, speaking with an experienced personal injury attorney can help them protect their rights.
If you or a loved one was the victim of a serious bicycle accident caused by the negligence of another driver, you may also be eligible to file an injury claim.
